About

Thomas Annang - drums        Adie Baako - dance

Adie and Thomas grew up near the coast in Ghana and have a lifetime of music and stories to share. They were childhood neighbours in the tiny fishing village of Langma, near Kokrobite - about one hour West of Accra, the capital of Ghana. Along with several of their village contemporaries, Thomas and Adie studied drumming and dancing as teenagers under the watchful eye of Master Drummer Okoe Ardifyo, leader of the Akrowa group in Ghana to this day. Now living in Belfast and Edinburgh, with Okoe's blessing, Thomas and Adie are growing Akrowa UK -  so you too can be transported to Ghana through their music and dance.

The word Akrowa means village and seeing the whole group perform in Ghana is indeed like watching small village on show, often with over 20 people sharing the stage. Being in the Akrowa group means that you are part of the Akrowa family - it's so much more than a band.  So if you come along to an Akrowa UK workshop or performance, you too will be welcomed with open arms into the Akrowa family for an hour or two!

What we do

Akrowa UK brings Ghana to Scotland through performances and workshops. Performances can be indoors our outdoors, stationary or moving. We are flexible! We have taught workshops in schools, at community events and festivals, for total beginners to professional artists - regardless of age and ability. Adie & Thomas can expand for larger performances by inviting members of the wider Akrowa community from London or elsewhere in Europe.
